Kid's Fishing Contest Returns July 3-5

Some say that old habits are the best habits and we’re seeing another old habit return for a virtual 4th of July celebration at Lake Leota. The 4th of July Committee and Evansville Community Partnership will bring back the Kid’s Fishing Tournament for the upcoming holiday weekend with cash prizes for the three largest fish entered.

Of course, there will have to be a few changes in the face of a pandemic that has changed so much of our summer. The tournament will expand from a half-day affair to take up the whole weekend and entries will be made via email.

Here’s The Skinny- (THE RULES)

  • The contest will open Friday morning July 3 and the last fish must be caught by 6 pm on Sunday July 5.
  • There’s still no entry fee and it’s still open to anyone age 12 and younger.

  • All fish must be taken at Lake Leota by hook and line and measured against one of the official measuring signs that will be posted in four locations in the park. Take your picture along the ruler on the bright yellow signs by the spillway, the warming house, the Deetz Pavilion, and the Fishing Pier

  • Then it’s as simple as sending the picture of you with your catch and the sign along with the fisher’s age, address and the size of the fish to ecpi@litewire.net before 8 pm on July 5 for the judging. All entries may be posted for the public

  • There will be trophies for the top three winners and cash prizes for three places as well thanks to sponsorship from The Night Owl Food & Spirits and Allen Realty

Show Us Your Bunting, Evansville!!

Evansville has always celebrated the 4th of July like no other community and now, in the face of a pandemic that has changed so much of our summer, there is a way for you to celebrate the holiday in style and show that patriotic spirit for which our city is known.

The Fourth of July Committee, in cooperation with the Evansville Tourism Commission, is holding a home decorating contest for residents of the city and it’s easy to participate.

Here Are the Details (The Rules)

  • First decorate the outside of your residence for the 4th. Take one picture that best captures the spirit of your decorations and send it along with your name and address to DecorateEvansville@yahoo.com and we’ll do the rest.

  • All photos and information must be sent by email to DecorateEvansville@yahoo.com by MIDNIGHT on JUNE 30, 2020. By sending your photos to the contest you are allowing the use of those photos and your address in the contest.

  • The first twenty entries will receive $20 Chamber Bucks prizes that can be spent nearly anywhere in Evansville.

  • Entries will be posted on the Lake Leota 4th of July Facebook page or you can drive by to see them for yourself. The 4th of July Committee will set up a poll for Evansville’s votes to be tallied and the top three vote-getters will receive cash prizes for their efforts. $100 for First. $75 for Second. $50 for Third highest vote-getter.

  • Voting will be open from July 1 until Midnight on July 4 and winners will be announced on Sunday July 5 on Facebook and the ECP website.
